Cursor social media publishing with SimplePost
Cursor's agent works where your release happens: in the repository. Add SimplePost as a remote MCP server and the agent can write announcement posts from your changelog or diff, show them for review, and schedule them on X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and the other networks you connected.
SimplePost's MCP access is included on every plan and the 7-day free trial. You keep your own AI subscription.

How Cursor connects to SimplePost
What you need
- Cursor with MCP support for remote Streamable HTTP servers.
- A SimplePost account on the free trial or any paid plan, with social accounts connected in the web app.

What Cursor can do with SimplePost
- Turn a changelog entry, pull request or diff into a user-facing announcement.
- Create one post with different versions per network.
- Save drafts, return previews and schedule posts for the release time.
- List, edit or discard scheduled posts if a release moves.
It works through SimplePost's social media MCP server. Cursor cannot connect social accounts, read engagement analytics or change posts that are already published; those stay in the SimplePost web app or on the network.

Set up SimplePost in Cursor
Add SimplePost to mcp.json
Use .cursor/mcp.json in a project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project.

Open Cursor's MCP settings, find simplepost and start the login. Approve access on the SimplePost page that opens.
Check the tools
The server should list its tools, including list_accounts, create_post and get_schedule.
Test with a draft
Ask the agent to list your SimplePost accounts and save a test draft, then look at it in the SimplePost web app.

Authentication
Sign-in, permissions and tokens
- SimplePost supports OAuth dynamic client registration, so Cursor registers itself and no client ID or secret is needed in mcp.json.
- Do not add an API key header: SimplePost's MCP server accepts only OAuth tokens, and API keys are for the Pro HTTP API.
- Tokens expire after 90 days; sign in again from Cursor's MCP settings when prompted.
Workflow
Example: publish a release from Cursor
Ask the agent in the repository you are shipping. Keep the review step: the agent saves a draft first.
Read the latest section of CHANGELOG.md and the merged pull requests for this release. Write three user-facing highlights.
Result: The agent reads the repository and proposes highlights for you to correct.
Using SimplePost, list my accounts, then save a draft with a LinkedIn post and an X thread built from those highlights. Show me each version.
Result: One draft with per-account versions is saved and each version is returned for review.
Schedule the draft for tomorrow at 10:00 America/New_York.
Result: The post is scheduled with an exact timestamp; the agent reports the accounts and time.

- Keep one post per announcement and let per-account overrides carry the differences between networks.
- If the release includes screenshots, host them publicly (for example as release assets) and give the agent the URLs.

Networks Cursor can publish to
All ten hosted networks work the same way from Cursor: X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest and Telegram. These platform guides are most relevant here:
- Schedule X (Twitter) posts with AIPosts, threads of up to 25 posts, quotes and media on X, with weighted-length checks before publishing.
- Schedule LinkedIn posts with AIPersonal-profile posts with up to 9 images or a video, visibility settings and a feed preview.
- Schedule Bluesky posts with AIPosts, threads and quotes with up to 4 images or a video on Bluesky, with alt text support.
- Schedule Threads posts with AIText posts, reply chains, quotes and carousels of up to 20 images and videos on Threads.
Troubleshooting
If Cursor cannot publish
The server shows an authentication error
Start the login again from Cursor's MCP settings and approve access in the browser with the same SimplePost account.
The agent cannot find accounts
Social accounts are connected in the SimplePost web app, not through Cursor. Connect one, then ask again.
Local image paths fail
The hosted server cannot read your disk. Use public URLs or upload the media in the web composer.

Cursor and SimplePost questions
Is SimplePost in the Cursor Marketplace?
Not currently. Add the hosted server to mcp.json manually, or load the SimplePost repository as a local Agent Plugin.
What goes in Cursor's mcp.json for SimplePost?
A server entry named simplepost with the url https://app.simplepost.social/mcp. No headers or keys are needed; Cursor completes OAuth when you sign in.
Can Cursor post to LinkedIn and X?
Yes, once those accounts are connected in SimplePost. The agent creates the post in SimplePost, which publishes it to each account.
Does the Cursor integration cost extra?
No. MCP is included on every SimplePost plan and the free trial.
