How it works
How SimplePost supports X
Hosted SimplePost connects to X with OAuth 2.0 and posts as the account you approve. Posting through the hosted service is covered by your SimplePost plan; there is no separate X API bill or credit top-up for hosted users.
Threads are published as a native reply chain: SimplePost posts the first item, then replies to it with each follow-up in order, pausing briefly between segments. Every segment gets its own result, so a partial failure is visible instead of hidden.
Supported content types
- Text posts
- Counted the way X counts them: links count as 23 characters and some characters, such as emoji and CJK text, count double.
- Threads
- A first post plus up to 24 follow-ups (20 segments in total during the free trial). In MCP, follow-ups are text-only; the web composer can attach media to them.
- Images and GIFs
- Up to 4 images in one post. An animated GIF must be the only attachment.
- Video
- One video per post, H.264 with AAC audio, from 0.5 seconds up to the length your account allows.
- Quote posts and reposts
- Quote a post already published through SimplePost, and optionally repost your own post automatically after a delay.

SimplePost validates these rules when you schedule and again when the post becomes due.
Account requirements
- An X account you can sign in to. SimplePost posts only as the identity you authorize.
- Posts longer than 280 weighted characters require an account that X allows to publish long posts, such as a Premium subscription. SimplePost checks the account's status when it publishes and blocks a long post for accounts without it.
- Replies and quotes are subject to X's API rules: X rejects replies to, or quotes of, posts that are not yours and do not mention you.
Limitations to know
- SimplePost does not apply X's shorter video duration limit for accounts without Premium; X decides at upload time and returns an error if the video is too long.
- Engagement numbers (likes, reposts, impressions) are not read back by the MCP tools.
- Editing or deleting a post after it is published on X has to be done in X.

How AI assistants publish to X
Your assistant calls list_accounts to find your X account, then create_post with a root message and a thread array for follow-ups. Ask for a draft first and SimplePost saves it without publishing, so you can check the thread before choosing a time.
Because the length check uses X's weighting, an assistant that drafts a 275-character post with two links may still be over the limit. SimplePost reports the exact problem, and the assistant can shorten the post before scheduling.
For media, give the assistant a public image or video URL, or attach a file in a client that supports uploads, such as ChatGPT. Local file paths do not work with the hosted server.
All assistants use the same SimplePost MCP server, so the accounts, validation and results are identical whichever one you use.

Scheduling and preview
How X scheduling and previews behave
- Scheduled posts are stored in SimplePost and sent when they become due. They are validated again at that moment, so an expired X connection or a changed file is caught before publishing.
- The preview shows the full thread in order, with the media grid or carousel that X uses, in light or dark mode.
- Until it starts publishing, a scheduled thread can be edited, rescheduled or discarded from the web app or by your assistant.

X scheduling questions
Can I schedule an X thread?
Yes. A SimplePost post can include up to 24 follow-ups, and SimplePost publishes them as a reply chain at the scheduled time. During the free trial, threads are limited to 20 posts in total.
Do I need an X API subscription to use SimplePost?
No. Hosted SimplePost uses its own X app, and posting is covered by your SimplePost plan. You only need your own X developer credentials when you self-host or use the SDK directly.
Why did SimplePost block my long post?
Posts over 280 weighted characters require an X account that can publish long posts. If X reports that your account has no such subscription, SimplePost blocks the post instead of letting it fail on X. Split it into a thread or shorten it.
Can I add images to every post in a thread?
In the web composer, yes. Through MCP, follow-ups are text-only and media belongs on the first post.
Does SimplePost support quote posts on X?
Yes. You can quote a post that was published through SimplePost by selecting its record, and you can enable an automatic repost of your own post after a delay between 1 and 720 hours.
