How it works

How SimplePost supports YouTube

SimplePost connects with Google OAuth and permission to upload videos and read your channel. The channel is the one tied to the Google identity you choose on Google's consent screen; accounts without a channel cannot be connected.

You can let SimplePost upload the video when the post becomes due, or upload it right away with YouTube's own scheduled publish time. With YouTube's scheduling, the video stays private until YouTube publishes it.

SimplePost validates these rules when you schedule and again when the post becomes due.

Account requirements

  • A Google account with a YouTube channel.
  • For videos longer than 15 minutes, a channel that YouTube allows to upload long videos (usually a verified channel).
  • A video file for every post; YouTube has no text or image posts in SimplePost.

Limitations to know

  • Adding a video to a playlist is not supported.
  • Community posts, live streams, premieres and captions files are not supported.
  • If a custom thumbnail fails to apply, the video is still published and SimplePost reports a warning.
  • Provider quota and channel restrictions still apply; YouTube can refuse uploads when the daily API quota is used up.

How AI assistants publish to YouTube

Assistants are most useful for the metadata. Give the video's transcript or outline and ask for a title under 100 characters, a description with timestamps, and tags that fit in 500 characters.

Be explicit about privacy and audience in the prompt. Set the privacy value on the post rather than relying on a default.

Upload long or large videos from a public URL. Hosted uploads through MCP are limited to 500 MB per file, and local file paths do not work with the remote server.

All assistants use the same SimplePost MCP server, so the accounts, validation and results are identical whichever one you use.

How YouTube scheduling and previews behave

  • The preview shows the player frame, title, channel and the start of the description, which is how viewers first see the upload.
  • SimplePost validates title length, forbidden characters, tags and the single-video rule when you schedule, and again when the post becomes due.
  • Scheduled uploads can be edited or discarded in the web app until they start publishing.
